I think you got it pretty right. I agreed with every point you made so far…but to be honest I was expecting this movie to be a f*ck up as soon as the cast members and the director were announced.
The funny part is that just as I finished seeing the trailer and started describing it to my friends I also used the “mortal combat” analogy. ;P
I hate to say but I agree with you that they diverted way too far from many of the general story aspects that made Dragon Ball great.
I only hope that if the rumors are true regarding 20th Century Fox working on a DBZ live action that they will learn from this mistake and do that one correctly.
